Do you offer airport transportation?

• No, but taxi vans are readily accessible at the airport for a reasonable fee. We always suggest renting a car.

How far are you from the Airport?

• 8 miles, which takes about 10-15 minutes to drive. Click for directions from the Airport.

Will someone be in the office to check me in?

• Absolutely! Our office officially closes at 9:00 p.m., but we always have a staff member or security guard on site to check in any late night arrivals.

Do you have guest laundry facilities?

• Yes, coin operated machines for guest use with soap available at the office.

Do you offer breakfast?

• No, we are considered a hotel and not a Bed and Breakfast. All but 2 of our cottages (Carmen and Coco Bean, have full kitchens, so our guests usually have breakfast in their cottages.

What time is check in and check out?

• Check-in is anytime after 3pm Check-out is anytime before 11:00 am

Do you offer Wi-Fi?

• Yes, full property, high speed coverage.

Can you swim and snorkel at the Cottages?

• Absolutely. Our beach is better than any other beach on the Island for swimming and snorkeling.

Do you recommend renting a car?

• Yes. St Croix is the biggest of the three US Virgin Islands and it is fun to explore by car. Rental cars are reasonably priced and driving on the left is easier than you would think considering people drive slowly and most roads are only one lane in each direction. It is as simple as following the car in front of you. You must be 25 years or older with a credit card to rent a car.

Do you provide towels and bed linens?

• Yes, all linens, including beach towels are provided and do we have daily maid service 5 days a week (no in-house Sundays, Wednesdays and on major holidays).

Is it safe in St Croix or is crime a problem?

• Yes, it is safe, however guests sometimes get too relaxed and let their guard down, which makes them vulnerable as a potential target. Petty theft can be a problem in St. Croix and all over the Caribbean. Be careful and follow all safety rules such as locking your doors and not walking to town at night. Crime is universal and our property is secure and covered by video surveillance.

Can you walk to town?

• The walk into town is less than a mile and recommended only during the day. We don’t recommend walking into town to shop; it is a little too far and the objects you carry with you could make you a potential target for petty theft. The walk into town does have isolated areas with no sidewalks forcing you to walk in the street, which is also a hazard for guests.

Are there good resturants nearby?

• Yes, in Frederiksted, we have several fine dining establishments as well as beach bars and local cuisine. Please visit our Restaurants Tab on this website for a list of nearby restaurants.

Do you provide snorkling equipment?

• Yes, we have a closet by the laundry room where guests leave their snorkeling equipment behind that is available for guest use.

Who do you recommend for Scuba Diving?

• The island is excellent for Scuba Diving and highly recommended for beginners as well as experts. There are several scuba shops in Frederiksted, so just pick one – they are all good.

Is noise an issue?

• Generally, noise is not an issue, however, holidays and Sunday afternoons are the busiest beach days for the locals and noise can be a problem on those days. Carnival, which is the first week in January, can also be a rather festive and somewhat noisy time.

Do you allow parties?

• NO, we advertise as a private, quiet getaway for travelers to relax and enjoy the quiet waters of the west end of St Croix. We are not a party facility and do not have the parking for get togethers of any kind. The definition of a party is “a gathering of invited guests that usually involves food and/or beverage.” Plus, for safety purposes all of our cottages and attached patios have a maximum occupancy.

Where do you buy groceries?

• There is a grocery store just up the road from our Cottages at Hannah’s Rest. There are also several larger grocery stores mid island. The office has a list of grocery stores and restaurants.

Do the Cottages have Air Conditioning?

• Yes, all cottages are air conditioned.

Do you have Cable TV?

• Yes, all Cottages have cable TV.

How far is it to drive from The Cottages to Christiansted?

• Approximately 20 miles or about 30 minutes. Maps of the Island are available at the office.

​HOTEL & RESERVATION POLICIES

BOOKING A COTTAGE…

• A two-night deposit is required at the time of booking. The remaining balance is due at check-in, but can be paid at any time before check-in
• Always book via our online reservation system on our website.
• Guests must provide a major credit card to secure a reservation.
• We have a 3-night minimum requirement for all reservations
• Reservations cannot be confirmed more than 11 months in advance
• We reserve the right to move reservations of 4 nights or less in lieu of a longer reservation. However, we rarely need to move a reservation, and a move would only be a lateral move or an upgrade.
• Reservations made via an OTA (online travel agent such as Expedia or Airbnb) can only be changed, altered or refunded via the platform with which you booked.  We also cannot apply any of our discounts or discount codes to any reservation not made on our website. 
• Children are always welcome, but we cannot allow children under the age of 12 to be in our upstairs cottages. 
• When booking a flight, STX IS THE AIRPORT CODE FOR ST CROIX.  PLEASE DO NOT FLY INTO ST THOMAS.

BOOKING FOR MORE THAN 2 PEOPLE…

• Prices vary, per cottage, depending on size, location and season.
• Cottages are priced for single or double occupancy.
• Extra person fees of $40.00 per night, per person, for over two people, will be charged to any person in a cottage over 2 people, not to exceed the cottage maximum occupancy.
• Children travelling with a parent and under the age of 12 are free.
• It is important that we know your exact occupancy before check-in to ensure proper bedding and towels

TAX AND FEES…

• 12.5% USVI Hotel Tax and a 10% energy fee will be added to every reservation.
• There is no sales tax in the USVI

IF YOU NEED TO CANCEL…

• Cancellation Policy:  We offer a full refund for cancellations made prior to 30 days before check-in. For reservations cancelled within 30 days of check-in, we charge a one-night cancellation fee (1/2 of your deposit). 
• No shows and cancellations within one week of arrival will forfeit their full deposit. 
• All cancellations need to be in writing by emailing us at vacation@caribbeancottages.com. Please do not call the office for cancellations. 
• Refunds via credit card cannot be issued for deposits made over 120 days in advance, per our credit card processor.  Credit Card refunds will take a few days to post to your account.  Deposits older than 120 will be refunded  via company check and may take a while longer.

COMING AND GOING….

• Check-in:  Any time after 3pm
• Check-out: Any time before 11am
• Early check-in and late check-out are subject to availability.
• Guests arriving before 3pm may store their belongings in the front 
• We always suggest renting a car
• Restaurant and Grocery Store Lists are provided at check in

FOR OUR SMOKING GUESTS…

• In accordance with U.S. Virgin Islands law, 27 V.I.C. § 407, smoking and vaping are not permitted within 20 feet of the entryway to an indoor establishment nor is smoking allowed inside of any business establishment.
• Smoking is only permitted in the designated smoking areas. Please ask our staff where these areas are.

GUESTS OF OUR GUESTS…

• Hotel guests who wish to bring visitors to our cottages must have them register at the front desk upon arrival. Cottages cannot exceed the maximum occupancy, plus two extra guests
• Cottages by the Sea is private property and the facilities and amenities are for the use of in-house guests only

PETS…

• As much as we love our pets, no animals are permitted on our property unless they are properly credentialed as a service animal and you bring your documentation. Please notify the office in advance if you will be travelling with a service animal.

PARKING FOR IN-HOUSE GUESTS…

• Self-parking is free for in-house guests only. The hotel does not accept responsibility for damages to, or theft from, vehicles parked on the premises. Provide the license plate number to the office at check-in to avoid any issues.

COTTAGE CLEANING…

• Daily housekeeping will be provided each day except Wednesdays, Sundays or Major Holidays.  Guest rooms displaying a “Do Not Disturb” sign will not receive in-house cleaning for that day.  Fresh towels are always available at the office. 

EXPECTATIONS…

• To ensure a peaceful vacation for all our guests, guests are expected to behave in a manner not disturbing to other guests or hotel staff 
• We try very hard to enforce quiet time hours of 9 pm to 8 am
• Anyone who is intoxicated, disorderly, in violation of the smoking policy, causes the destruction of hotel property, or who cause a public disturbance will be asked to leave the property without a refund
• We are a hotel and not a party facility, so we do not allow parties or large gatherings on our property unless cleared by the management ahead of the event.  A party is defined as any event that includes invited guests and usually includes food and/or drinks. 

EXTRAS…

In the event of one of the following, and to ensure that our cottages are always clean, fresh and orderly, the cost of your reservation includes everything except the following :

• $35 charge for leaving dirty dishes at check out 
• $50 charge for cottages needing excessive cleaning 
• $200 charge for evidence of smoking or vaping in the cottages 
• $200 charge for evidence of unauthorized pets 
• $500 charge for unauthorized parties or gatherings on our property
